GIRARD-PERREGAUX's story

Two centuries of watchmaking innovations

The primary objective of any company is innovation. To innovate is to be creative, to have the vision and talent to blaze new trails. By adhering to its vocation as a manufactory, Girard-Perregaux is one of the few Swiss watch companies today to conceive and manufacture its own movements. This means it has to meet the constant challenge of achieving an ever higher level of quality and reliability. It is also the surest way of cultivating the exceptional "savoir-faire" that has made Girard-Perregaux one of the most beautiful jewels in the watch industry's crown.

1791 Foundation by J.F. Bautte

1854 Constant Girard married Marie Perregaux.

Around 1890, the brand developed itself and opened sales outlets in South America, the United States and Japan.

In 1928, Otto Graef, a German watchmaker and owner of Mimo (International Manufactory of Gold Watches) bought out Girard-Perregaux's share capital.

1965 Girard-Perregaux developed and manufactured the first high-frequency mechanical movement, with a balance making 36,000 vibrations per hour.

1969 the Manufactory designed and produced a quartz movement with a frequency of 32,768 hertz, which became the universally accepted standard for all watches with quartz movements, including those made in Asia. This standard frequency was a veritable technical breakthrough.

In 1991, to celebrate its bicentenary, the Manufactory created a miniaturised wrist-watch version of its celebrated Tourbillon with three gold Bridges. On 15 September 1992, Luigi Macaluso took over the GIRARD-PERREGAUX Manufacture
