Conrad Dasypodius

Conrad Hasenfratz, more well-known under the name of Dasypodius.
Swiss mathematician and astronomer.

1570's
Designed the second astronomic clock at Strasbourg cathedral (made by the Habrechts brothers: Isaac and Josias). It synthesised the age's state-of-the-art knowledge in astronomy, mathematics and mechanics.
On the first level of the clock is a geocentric representation of the world according to Ptolemy. Conrad Dasypodius however embraced the new heliocentric theory of Copernicus and displayed it by featuring an image of Copernicus on the bottom left of the clock.
