French clockmaker, son of André Charles.
Brother-in-law of Jean Antoine Lépine.
Watchmaker to the King in 1755.
Writer and playwright known as Beaumarchais.

Circa 1753 (at the age of twenty-one)
Invented the double virgule escapement (evolution of the cylinder escapement). Concomitance with the invention by Jean-André Lepaute (virgule escapement).
