Gemmologist
The gemmologist buys precious stones and checks their quality, which he/she certifies by issuing quality control certificates. He/she registers and labels the gemstones to guarantee their traceability during the manufacturing phase. The gemmologist is constantly aware of the status of his/her stock of gems. For luxury jewellery, he/she is also required to manage and supervise the re-cutting of gems. This professional has a degree or higher-education qualification in gemmology and must be rigorous and methodical, show attention to detail and have keen sales-based negotiation skills.
