Dial-maker

(in French: Cadranier)

The person wearing the watch will perceive his/her work first. The dial maker is an expert in reproducing patterns on the dial. He/she knows how to place the various elements (numerals, minute-circle, brand name, etc.) onto a sometimes irregular surface, affix the numerals and hour-markers on the rim or even create effects of depth by playing with volumes. By expressing his/her art equally well on steel and other surfaces such as sapphire, the future professional can learn the trade in specialised schools. A large part of his/her knowledge will come from practical experience and the advice of more experienced craftsmen.

  • Qualification in dial-making, 2 years - see external parts.
