Watch assembler / Assembly operator / Assembling

(in French: Horloger monteur / Opérateur montage / Assemblage)

The watch assembler brings the movement to life by assembling each of its constituent parts one by one. He/she must be extremely dextrous since watch assemblers are often required to rework the components until they fit together snugly. His/her objective is to ensure that the movement functions perfectly. As soon as a watchmaking practitioner qualification is obtained, the bearer can begin working as a watch assembler.

  • Watchmaking CFC (Swiss Federal Capacity Certificate), 3 or 4 years, see technical and watchmaking schools
  • N.B.: Confusion exists between a watch assembler, who works in a company and does not touch the strap/bracelet or change the battery, and a watch repairer, who works in a shop.
