These pages are regularly updated with details of schools and institutions that dispense training in watchmaking professions. Initially, all the listed schools are in Switzerland although more countries will be added soon. In certain cases, a profession can also be learned within a company or from qualified craftsmen.
There are various ways to enter a watchmaking profession. One is to train directly in that field. Another, depending on a person’s profile, is to move from a different field. A specialist in 3D imaging, for example, can move into the sector. Similarly, someone with a feel for manual work and a strong interest in watches can train as a specialist craftsman.
The many and varied watchmaking professions call on traditional skills as much as new areas of expertise. Currently, some 70% of persons employed in the sector work in production, 22% in administration and 3.5% in management.
Here you’ll find information on schools specialising in design, exteriors, engineering, human resources and other fields.
