The name Montblanc has always been associated with precious gifts and keepsakes that reflect the pinnacle of artisanal prowess and traditional craftsmanship. This reputation permeates all Montblanc products and is also reflected in Montblanc’s activities in haute horlogerie.
The “Institut Minerva de Haute horlogerie”
Haute horlogerie represents the very highest level of Swiss watchmaking culture. Very few Swiss watchmaking companies retain an uninterrupted history of longer than 100 years, but one of them is based in Villeret in the Vallon de Saint-Imier. Here, in this renowned birthplace of traditional Swiss watchmaking, Montblanc has joined forces with Minerva, a small watchmaking manufacture founded in 1858. Down to this day, a select group of master watchmakers in the Minerva ateliers continue to create timepieces by hand, strictly following the principles of traditional haute horlogerie. To preserve this heritage, Minerva and Montblanc have jointly founded the “Institut Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie” as a centre of excellence for the talents and skills that are essential for handcrafting haute horlogerie masterpieces. This is also where the Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 line of exquisite, hand-made timepieces is created
Montblanc Montre S.A.
Le Locle is one of the centres Swiss watchmaking. Also known as “la Cité de la Précision”, Le Locle is a tranquil town nestling among the Alpine slopes of the Jura, far from the bustle of the big cities. Although founded as recently as 1997, Montblanc Montre S.A. has carved out a firm place for itself amongst the great watchmakers of our time. With the introduction of the MB R100 and MB R200 in April 2008 - the first two movements completely developed and produced in-house in Le Locle - Montblanc Montre S.A. has established itself among the few real watch manufactures in Switzerland. At Montblanc Montre, the Montblanc collection Star, TimeWalker and Profile are designed and produced.
