Invented a repetition mechanism (hours and quarters) for watches. Quare is one of the first to manufacture repetition watches. In 1686, supported by the Clockmaker Company, he sued Edward Barlow who tried to patent his system. The case was settled in favour of Quare in 1687.

Late seventeenth century

Improvement of minute display: invention of a mechanism that drove the hour and minute hands at the same time. Until that point, the minute hand had been independent of the hour hand.
