Arceau Tigre

Hermès 2016

Men's

In a fascinating play of light and shade, Hermès explores a new palette of expertise and brings the rare technique of Email ombrant, or shaded enamel, to a watch dial. Engraver and enameller work conjointly to create the majestic dial of this Arceau Tigre, which is drawn from an illustration by Robert Dallet. Both Artisans must work in perfect interaction. First the engraver carves the metal, defining the thickness of elements in relief and the depth of the sunken areas before handing over to the enameller who covers the design with a lightly tinted translucent enamel. This enamel captures and reflects the light, appearing darker in the sunken zones while the raised parts seem lighter, almost colourless. Each detail appears with stunning precision, down to the shape of the individual hairs of the tiger's fur. Time is portrayed with rare artistry, through a rich palette of greys. Only 12 of this watch will be made.
