L.U.C XPS 1860 Officer
Chopard 2017
L.U.C XPS 1860 Officer square
The L.U.C XPS 1860 Officer is part of watchmaking's grand tradition. On one side, the dial with its hand-guilloché honeycomb pattern; on the other, an officer back, also with guillochage, which opens to reveal the ultra-thin L.U.C 96-01-L movement. When the watch made the transition from pocket to wrist, this type of hinged back, originally designed to protect the glass on a pocket watch and ornately engraved, naturally fell out of style. Now Chopard is reviving the tradition with this 100-piece limited edition in gold, all COSC-certified and hallmarked Poinçon de Genève. The guillochage in the centre of the dial is a nod to the very first Chopard Manufacture watch, introduced in 1996. A second historic reference can be found inside the officer-style cover. It takes us back to the founding of Chopard by Louis-Ulysse Chopard, whose watches were always engraved with a beehive surround by a swarm of bees: the self-same depiction that we can see here.
