The polymechanic apprentice/student can train either in the workplace completed by studies at a vocational college, or as a full-time student. He/she begins by developing manual skills and basic knowledge of production and assembly techniques, as well as a work methodology.

At least two specialisms are proposed from the third year. Lessons in theory, maths, physics, chemistry, materials, electronics, electrical engineering, technical drawing and general education complete this four-year course.

At CEFF St-Imier and at CIFOM-ET Le Locle, students can prepare for their federal vocational baccalaureate examination (maturité professionnelle) at the same time or, at EMT Porrentruy, after passing their federal VET* diploma (certificat fédéral de capacité).
