A polymechanic produces, adjusts and assembles the parts required to make machinery, tools, equipment and prototypes. He/she is able to work with various types of machine tools including lathes, milling machines, drills and boring tools, most of which are computer numerically controlled (CNC). He/she must also be capable of programming CNC machine tools for individual jobs. The polymechanic must have a good understanding of production processes, materials, thermal treatments and industrial technology, and must be able to draft technical documents.
