Academia Skeleton

DeWitt 2017

Men's

Academia Squelette square

De Witt has chosen a highly architectural construction for the manual-wind skeleton movement in the Academia line. Twin barrels provide 100 hours of power reserve. They sit in the top part of the movement alongside the satellite power reserve display on differential gears, thus creating space for the retrograde and bidirectional small seconds. This distinctive display takes the shape of a fan, graduated from 0 to 60. The hand

travels in one direction for the first 30 seconds, on which it disconnects from one set of gears and immediately engages with other gears that send it in the opposite direction for another 30 seconds. It simultaneously extends so as to point to the appropriate scale. The balance-and-spring assembly sits discreetly on the back of the movement. A pink gold case contrasts with the blackened bridges and plate to further accentuate the technical nature of this watch as it marks time to the to-and-fro motion of the "windscreen wiper"

seconds.
