Defy El Primero 21
Zenith 2017
Defy El Primero 21 square
Zenith introduces the El Primero Chronograph calibre for the 21st century, accurate to 1/100th of a second and largely inspired by the Mikro range, previously developed by LVMH stablemate TAG Heuer. Zenith has achieved this level of precision by using a dual chain structure, i.e. two regulators in carbon-matrix carbon nanotube composite, an innovative and patented material that is unaffected by temperature change and also resistant to magnetic fields. The first regulating system, for the timekeeping functions, runs at 36,000 vib/hour, a nod to the original El Primero from 1969. Its counterpart runs at ten times that to measure hundredths of a second. Transposed to the dial, this gives a central hand that makes one sweep per second. Highly anticipated, this new execution marks a new era for the world's most precise chronograph.
