Hybris Artistica Mystérieuse
Jaeger-LeCoultre 2017
Hybris Artistica Mystérieuse square
Like a spider weaving its web, Jaeger-LeCoultre has
painstakingly woven the skeletonised decor of this sculptural watch, to draw
the eye deep into a magnificently executed staging that shows time with neither
hour nor minute hands. The Hybris Artistica Mystérieuse is outstanding from all
points of view. Visually, a mother-of-pearl overlay, carved like lace, delicately
encloses the blue aventurine dial below. Technically, the automatic movement
was developed to allow an uninterrupted view of the Gothic-inspired decoration.
The hours are shown by the position of the orbital flying tourbillon that seems
to hover above the dial, while the disc on the flange counts the minutes as
they pass. The scene continues on the sides of the pink gold case, and on the
movement by way of subtle touches of engraving and a flash of aventurine.
