RM 68-01 Tourbillon Cyril Kongo
Richard Mille 2017
RM 68-01 Tourbillon Cyril Kongo square
The RM 68-01 springs from Richard Mille's idea to open
fine watchmaking to contemporary art. The plate and bridges of the movement, as
well as the flange, become an outlet for the creative work of street artist
Cyril Kongo, forming a coherent whole. Kongo is originally a graffiti artist,
and it took over a year to develop the equivalent of a micro spray can that was
capable of spraying droplet by droplet with extreme precision. The real
challenge, however, was to achieve a palette of unique, inalterable and bright
colours that would perfectly adhere to the titanium components and therefore resist
being dismantled and reassembled. The shape of the carbon case with black
ceramic bezel and back plays on an asymmetrical design, varying in thickness
between 9 and 3 o'Clock, and in height between 12 and 6 o'clock.
