Can watchmaking be sustainable? Yes, says Panerai, and proves it with this concept watch, produced as a run of 30 pieces. An impressive 98.6 % of its total weight is composed of recycled materials; the highest proportion of any watch so far. The case, dial and bridges are made from EcoTitanium™, an aerospace-grade titanium alloy that contains more than 80 % recycled content. Similarly, the lower layer of the sandwich dial plus the hands are coated with 100 % recycled Super-LumiNova®. The silicon for the escapement is also recycled, as is the fabric for the grey strap with blue stitching that coordinates with the lume on the dial. Water-resistant to 300 metres and powered by an in-house automatic movement, this dive watch is packed with innovations. It will, Panerai hopes, spearhead a movement towards a more sustainable watch industry.
