Proposed as a combination of training in the workplace plus studies at a vocational college, or as full-time study at a vocational college. The jeweller student/apprentice spends a large part of this four-year course at the workbench, working with metals (silver, gold, platinum), precious stones, gemstones and other materials.

The first step in making a jewel is to sketch the idea. The apprentice/student then produces more detailed renderings and makes moulds. Training at the workbench is completed by lessons in jewellery design, observational drawing, geometry, model-making, metals science, gemmology, general education and inter-company courses.

The student/apprentice can choose one of the following three specialisms: Jewellery-making / Metal-smithing / Gem-setting
