The watch fitter apprentice/student learns to assemble the different components of a high-end mechanical or electronic watch movement, to assemble the dial on the movement, and to fit the hands. He/she trains either in the workplace with additional studies at a vocational college, or as a full-time student at BBZ/CFP technical college in Biel/Bienne.
He or she also learns to adjust the sprung balance, a vital component in ensuring a watch's precision and part of the regulating of a mechanical movement.
Apprenticeship training is completed by theory which is taught either at the college or on inter-company courses.
