The purpose of conservation is the preservation of cultural works through the examination and analysis of such works and the drafting of relevant documents such as condition reports. Training in conservation draws on an international conservation ethic which implies respect for the work's original character and significance, be this artistic, historical, scientific, spiritual or religious.
