In 1962 John Glenn wore a Heuer chronometer as he orbited the Earth, making it the first Swiss watch to be worn in space. In honour of this historic voyage, the TAG Heuer Carrera Astronomer revisits the conventional moon-phase display. At 6 o’clock, a rotating disc with two arrows shows the age of the Moon from 1 to 29.5 days and, directly opposite, the current moon phase, highlighted with Super-LumiNova. Inspired by the Heuer Solunar from 1949, this clear and precise display is set in a silver sunray brushed dial surrounded by a silver flange. A black minute track sits against a black, grey or rose gold-plated ground, depending on the model. The latter version is paired with a beads-of-rice bracelet, a TAG Heuer signature from the 1960s. The screw-down back of the 39mm steel case, water-resistant to 100 metres, is laser-engraved with an observatory dome. It houses the new Calibre 7 movement on a Sellita SW300 base with a 56-hour power reserve. All three versions are limited to 500 pieces.
