The origins of the Altiplano go back to the first Piaget dress watches that were fitted with the manual-winding 9P calibre, introduced in 1957 and one of the slimmest mechanical movements of its day. This would blaze a trail for the numerous records for thinness that Piaget has established since then, in impeccably styled, elegantly understated designs. The latest to date is this Altiplano Origin. True to the Altiplano’s spirit, its case is a pure, simple circle measuring 35mm in diameter, sculpted from pink gold and surmounted by a slim bezel. Its dial is a lesson in sobriety, with a silver-toned surface swept by slender hour and minute hands in pink gold. Close examination reveals the Altiplano signature at 8 o’clock. And there is more to see on the reverse side, where the flawless finishing of the extra-thin 501P movement can be admired, including the engraved Piaget coat of arms on the oscillating weight. In all, a watch that is beautiful from every angle, worn on an interchangeable strap in shiny red alligator.
