Cape Cod Martelée

The Cape Cod is a master class in design. Imagined in 1991 by Henri d'Origny, this "square inside a rectangle" is in fact composed of two half-links whose shape came out of the imagination of Robert Dumas, who sketched them from a boat's anchor chain in 1938. This iconic design is joined here by a hammering technique borrowed from the jeweller's repertoire. This complex process creates a textured, patinated effect across the steel case. The dial, which has the same hammered finish, is covered with a fine coat of translucent lacquer that goes from anthracite grey at the centre to blend gradually into black around its edge. The depth and roughness of the dimpled surface lends an entirely unexpected appearance to an object that is raw yet also finely crafted. The Cape Cod Martelée is fitted with a Swiss-made quartz movement.
