Grand Planetarium Eccentric Meteorite
Christiaan van der Klaauw unveiled the Grand Planetarium Eccentric in 2024 for the 50th anniversary of his brand. This 44mm watch in platinum or rose gold displays eight hand-painted planets which revolve in real time over an aventurine dial. A year later, at Watches and Wonders, Christiaan van der Klaauw presented a new iteration, this time with a case fashioned from a one-kilo block of solid meteorite. The Grand Planetarium Eccentric is the first ever mechanical planetarium watch on which Mercury, Venus, Earth with its moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune orbit the dial at the same speed as the actual planets around the sun. Developed at the van der Klaauw manufacture, the planetarium module completes the CKM-01 calibre that was developed in collaboration with Uhrteil, the movement manufacturing entity belonging to watchmaker Andreas Strehler. Beating at 21,600 vibrations/hour, it is wound by a skeletonized gold-plated brass rotor with a tungsten weight and provides 60 hours of power reserve. Five fragments of “space rock” are attached to a ring set in the dial.
