Acquired by the Scheufele family in 1963, Chopard ventured back into the field of comprehensive A to Z in-house watch manufacturing in 1996. Built in Fleurier, in the Swiss Jura mountains, Chopard Manufacture is dedicated to producing the mechanical watches of the collection named L.U.C, in honor of Louis-Ulysse Chopard who founded the brand in 1860. Its first creation, presented in 1998, was symbolically dubbed L.U.C 1860. Clearly aiming for the heights in the realm of Fine Watchmaking, Chopard participated in the creation of the Fleurier Quality Foundation (FQF) certification that came into force in 2004. Based on a set of criteria even more demanding than those of the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) and the Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark, it was a watch industry first. At Chopard, all L.U.C watches are submitted to the COSC. Some are also submitted to the Poinçon de Genève, and others to the FQF label. Nonetheless, there is one that surpasses all others by earning all three certifications.
The L.U.C Triple Certification Tourbillon presented in 2011 is the flagship model epitomizing all the skills united within Chopard Manufacture. Chronometer-certified by the COSC, it is acknowledged for the superior precision of its movement. Honored by the Poinçon de Genève quality hallmark, it is saluted for the overall craftsmanship of the said movement – since it was not until the following year that the institution extended its criteria to encompass the entire watch. By acquiring FQF certification, it is guaranteed truly exceptional thanks to a battery of tests including those of the Chronofiable test (resistance to ageing and external forces) and the Fleuritest (which reproduces wrist movements). Such recognition is all the more remarkable in that it applies to a watch with a tourbillon movement, one of the mechanisms most sensitive to wear and reliability tests.
The L.U.C Triple Certification Tourbillon, which proudly bears its triple certification on the dial, was endowed with a new case, redesigned to ensure perfect harmony and ergonomics. The dial gives pride of place to legibility and its hands reinterpret the Dauphine style, while the numerals are inspired by the 1960s look. A small seconds hand sweeps over the fascinating tourbillon, while the exceptional nine-day power reserve is displayed at 12 o’clock.
Housing the full range of Chopard’s in-house Fine Watchmaking movements, the L.U.C collection comprises five lines, respectively dedicated to Elegance, Complications, Grandes Complications, Heritage and Tech.
