In 1920 master watchmaker Alfred Helwig "unshackled" the tourbillon by anchoring it on one side only, adding a technical refinement to this coveted complication. Glashütte Original revisits Helwig's invention with the first timepiece to combine a flying tourbillon with a stop-seconds mechanism, zero reset and minute detent. The chronometer-certified movement is engineered so that the tourbillon carriage can be made to stop in mid-rotation. The minute and seconds hands are then synchronised so that the time can be set with perfect precision. This novel approach comes swathed with traditional decorative finishes. The finely worked case in platinum, measuring 42mm in diameter, makes an elegant setting for the three-dimensional spectacle of the dark blue dial and the flying tourbillon, both raised above the manually-wound Calibre 58-05 movement that has been lavished with hand-engraving. Collectors take note: only 25 will be made.
