The Quirky Backstory Of The Parmigiani Fleurier Toric

Collection

The Parmigiani Fleurier Toric collection reflects the brand's commitment to preserving traditional watchmaking techniques while integrating contemporary design elements.

The collection takes its name from the Greek word "Torus," which refers to the shape of a ring or doughnut.

The history of the Toric collection dates back to 1996, when Michel Parmigiani, founder of Parmigiani Fleurier, created the first Toric watch as a tribute to his passion for traditional watchmaking and classic design.

Since then, the collection has evolved to include a range of models — from time-only watches to more complex complications such as the perpetual calendar and minute repeater.

The case originally featured a fluted bezel, a nod to traditional watchmaking techniques and inspired by the golden ratio, a mathematical principle used in art and design for centuries. The dial was available in a variety of colors and finishes, and the cases were made from precious materials.

One of the key design elements of the Toric collection is the fluted bezel, which is handcrafted by skilled artisans using a special tool to create the delicate grooves that give the watch its distinctive look. The watch case is also meticulously finished, with polished and satin-finished surfaces.

From a technical point of view, the watches are powered by in-house movements designed, developed, and manufactured by the brand's team of watchmakers. These movements feature a series of intricate complications and decorations.
