Big Bang Unico Gourmet

Hublot first entered the culinary space in 2017 and now partners with seven Michelin-starred chefs. For them, as for any chef, one of the most important tools in their bag is a knife. Of the many materials a knife can be made from, Damascus steel has to be the most iconic. Hublot has chosen this metal, recognisable by its moiré pattern, to forge the Big Bang Unico Gourmet. Manufactured as a limited edition of 200, it is mounted on a textile strap, cut from a chef’s apron, with a Velcro fastener. Damascus steel today refers to a technique of hammering and folding steel to make it more resistant. The steel used for the case and bezel of this Big Bang is produced by Damasteel, a Swedish specialist, and is a composite of dark 304L steel and lighter 316L steel. Forged, repeatedly folded like a flaky pastry then pressed, the two steels weld together to produce the unique moiré pattern that is the “fingerprint” of these Big Bang watches.
