Earth seen from the sky, the sky seen from Earth: in addition to the hypnotic rotations of its tourbillon, Girard-Perregaux's Bridges Cosmos offers a celestial map and a world-time indication on two miniature globes. Laser-engraved on a blue-tinted titanium sphere, the sky chart traces the 12 constellations of the zodiac, enhanced with luminescent hydroceramic. Each of its rotations takes 23 hours, 58 minutes and 4 seconds, the exact length of a sidereal day. In perfect symmetry, the terrestrial globe displays world times, and indicates daylight or darkness by means of a day/night function. This technical tour de force is the work of a new manual-winding calibre which sits inside a beadblasted titanium case. Winding, setting and adjusting the two globes are done not by a crown but from the caseback – an additional opportunity to admire the intricacies of an exceptional mechanism that gives three-dimensional expression to horological technique as well as the poetry played out in the sky above.
