Caliber 9S 25th Anniversary Limited Edition
The introduction, in 1998, of Caliber 9S marked the beginning of a new era for Grand Seiko. Developed entirely in-house and running at a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour, it became the base movement for various escapements, functions and complications, including the 9SA5 with Dual Impulse Escapement and the recent Tentagraph. Now Grand Seiko is marking this landmark calibre’s 25th anniversary with the launch of two GMT models in its Sport and Elegance collections. Both take inspiration from Mt. Iwate, the mountain visible from the studio where Grand Seiko mechanical watches are assembled. The dial on the Sport model illustrates a sea of clouds at daybreak, while the sapphire case back reveals the titanium oscillating weight whose sky-blue colour is achieved through an anodic oxidation process. Water-resistant to 200 metres and produced as a limited edition of 2,000, its rotating bezel can be used to show the time in a third time zone.
