The wandering hours complication was invented in the seventeenth century. Audemars Piguet released its first wandering hours wristwatch in 1991. Since then, some thirty models have welcomed this complication which now makes its debut in the 11.59 collection. A central rotor carries three disks that also rotate. Each of these disks is inscribed with four numerals from 1 to 12. Over the three hours the rotor takes to make one complete revolution, each disk in turn will pass in front of a 120-degree arc where it points to the minutes. Consequently, each disk rotates a quarter-circle every hour. Centre seconds complete this complication, which is housed inside a white gold case with a contrasting black ceramic caseband. The crown is also black ceramic while the aluminium disks, finished with a microblasted opaline black PVD coating, rotate against a blue aventurine dial.
