Dragon Automaton
This Dragon Automaton is a collaboration between Jaquet Droz and John Howe, the artistic designer for Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” trilogies. The result is probably one of the most complex wristwatch automatons ever imagined, with a total of nine animations in a random sequence, so as to preserve all the watch’s magic and mystery. The creature’s spine undulates, as does its tail; its eye and jaw open and close, its tongue moves, its crest rises and falls, and its claws grasp a continuously rotating stone. Each sequence lasts between 10 and 15 seconds. In keeping with Jaquet Droz’s Vision 8 to create only unique pieces, each Dragon Automaton will be a one-of-a-kind creation, made to order. Hence elements such as the onyx dial, the sculpted gold dragon and the red gold case – the options chosen for one of the three Dragon Automaton crafted to date – will be personalised according to the customer’s wishes.
