Founder, alongside his wife, of Van Cleef & Arpels, Louis Arpels’ nickname of Ludo was given to one of the company’s signature pieces, the Ludo bracelet, in 1934. It is also the name of two new versions of the Ludo Secret high jewellery watch, in rose gold and diamonds or rose gold and pink sapphires. Like the original bracelet, their flexible brick-like links suggest the weave of a belt. Carrying on Van Cleef & Arpels’ tradition of secret watches, both hide a white guilloché mother-of-pearl dial that is revealed by simultaneously pressing each side of the diamond or sapphire “buckle”.
