A chamferer gives a high-quality finish to a watch movement by filing the sharp angles between the surface and the flanks of metal parts into a bevelled edge. This creates a smooth, even surface that will reflect the light. Hand-chamfering is a highly skilled craft, although much chamfering today is done by CNC machines.
