1816
1816 is an important date in the history of time measurement, being the year that watchmaker Louis Moinet devised the first ever chronograph. The 1816 timepiece that the Louis Moinet brand presents in 2025 highlights this legacy with respect to the original instrument’s aesthetic. Crafted in titanium, the double-gadroon case measures 40.6mm in diameter and retains the Directoire-style demi-bassine case with a smooth middle. The crown is decorated with a fleur-de-lys, the emblem of the city of Bourges, Louis Moinet’s birthplace. The minutes and seconds track on the lightly cambered dial is graduated into increments of six: a reference to the original chronograph’s sixtieth of a second indication. Also in titanium, the integrated bracelet is the first metal bracelet by Louis Moinet. As for the 330-component movement, developed in collaboration with Concepto, it shares the DNA of the original compteur de tierces while introducing a contemporary note, not least the absence of a plate on the back. Manually wound, it incorporates a swan-neck regulator and a column wheel chronograph. Power reserve is 48 hours.
