1816 Tourbillon Chronograph
In 1816 Louis Moinet invented the Compteur de Tierces, now considered the first ever chronograph. This new timepiece transposes the hallmarks of this historic instrument into a contemporary design that combines a monopusher chronograph with a flying tourbillon; a reminder of the friendship Louis Moinet maintained with Abraham-Louis Breguet. The 40.6mm case in grade 5 titanium takes numerous elements directly from the Compteur de Tierces, such as the Directoire-style profile, double gadroons, pump-style monopusher and the engraved fleur-de-lys, a reference to the town of Bourges, Louis Moinet’s birthplace. The rhodium-plated dial displays small seconds at 9 o’clock and the chronograph’s 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. The in-house LM114 manual-winding movement stores 96 hours of power reserve in its two barrels. Also in titanium, the integrated bracelet serves as a natural extension of the case. Its broad links trace an architectural curve, for visual continuity as well as comfort on the wrist. Produced as a 12-piece limited edition for the 210th anniversary of the Compteur de Tierces.
