Type 9 IKE

The Type 9 IKE takes Ressence’s most minimal design, the Type 9, and turns it into a canvas for artistic expression. A collaboration with the Japanese artist Terumasa Ikeda, this eight-piece limited edition transposes watchmaking into a pictorial register. Based on Ressence’s own ROCS orbital system, discs in constant rotation replace the conventional display of time by way of hands. This minimalist technical architecture becomes a conduit for the artist’s complex practice of urushi lacquer inlaid with raden (mother-of-pearl), individual fragments of which are shaped by hand then applied to the convex surfaces. Each of the eight watches, measuring 39mm in diameter and cased in black DLC titanium, operates as a unique piece where light and reflection constantly reframe the composition. Behind this construction is an ETA 2892 automatic base calibre combined with the ROCS 9 module showing indications of hours and minutes. Power reserve is around 36 hours. Water-resistant to 10 metres, the Type 9 IKE intentionally focuses on the essential in a constantly shape-shifting composition.
