When led technology meets exquisite craftsmanship, the quirky backstory of the Grima Pulsar watches

We've often highlighted the incredible work of jeweler Andrew Grima, especially his collaboration with Omega in the 1970s. However, it's less known that he also collaborated with Pulsar, a brand that emerged in 1972 during the quartz revolution.

Back then, Pulsar, owned by Hamilton, introduced a groundbreaking technology perceived as the future of watch displays: LED. Initially positioned as a high-end brand, Pulsar featured innovative designs and reached out to the highly skilled jewelry designer Andrew Grima to create exclusive pieces.

The LED technology provided designers with more space to explore creative designs, as it required less room to display the time. Grima, known for his iconic space-age inspiration, designed a series of Pulsar watches, expertly playing with gold and shapes. Each of these pieces was unique, making them incredibly rare.

However, in 1978, Pulsar was acquired by Seiko and became less of an exclusive proposition compared to the unique designs we see here.

Fortunately, @francescagrima, an exceptional jewelry designer herself, has allowed us to showcase some of her father's sketches, which are truly worth seeing!
