Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon
With its 41.5mm diameter, guaranteed water-resistance to a depth of 20 metres and blue PVD-treated cobalt alloy case, on the surface the Altiplano Ultimate Concept Tourbillon could be an "everyday" watch. However, its 2mm thickness and annular tourbillon elevate it to a different plane: that of the thinnest tourbillon watch in the world. Piaget has already established itself as a specialist in ultra-thin, a distinction that goes back to the 1950s. In 2018 it set a record (since broken) for the world's thinnest watch, the Altiplano Ultimate Concept, also a wafer-like 2mm high. For this latest feat, the position of the various elements is unchanged, with the hours and minutes dial still slightly off-centre. The tourbillon is at 10 o’clock with a seconds indicator engraved on its ring. The question being, how to find room for a tourbillon when the little space there is, is already taken up? Piaget's solution is to secure the annular flying tourbillon by its outer edge in a ceramic ball bearing, between sapphire crystals that are 0.2mm thick for the top crystal and 0.16mm thick for the bottom crystal.
