Astronef
Two satellite tourbillons on separate levels rotate at high speed and in opposite directions on the dial of this Astronef from Louis Moinet, crossing paths once every 3 minutes and 20 seconds or 18 times an hour. Six separate elements are in motion: the two satellite tourbillons, plus their two cages and two counterweights. The mechanism is concealed in the base of the case frame. This has the advantage of clearing the stage for the tourbillons as they move around the dial whose plate (0.6mm thick) is hollowed to reveal the numerals and the rack. Black DLC treatment combines with rhodium plating for contrast and character. Another unusual construction is that of the case; in fact a sapphire container mounted on the 18k gold frame, which is just 3.75mm deep. Lugs and the case band are openworked.
