The entire history of Hermès revolves around leather. Thierry Hermès started his business in 1837 making first saddles, then riding boots, and later bags for transporting riding paraphernalia that quickly developed into suitcases. Leather is also how the brand came to watchmaking, first by producing straps for others, from 1920, and later, from 1978, for its own watches. It should come as no surprise, then, to see leather at the heart of this Carré Cuir, which frames lizard skin inside its perfect square. Impeccably aligned, dial and strap form a continuous ribbon.
