A master of the decorative arts, Bovet proves that there is still potential for innovation in these métiers d'art with this Château de Môtiers - the first example of "luminous" miniature painting whereby the traditional technique is combined with layered applications of a luminescent substance. The finished dial painting can therefore be seen both in daylight and in the dark. Furthermore, the design that appears at night can be different to the one that is visible during daytime. The skill lies in applying the luminescent material so as to achieve an identical amount of detail by day and by night. For the artist, this means working on two paintings at once, moving from a lit room to a darkened room in order to constantly gauge each step. The collection currently features a magnificent butterfly, a bouquet of flowers and a tiger's head, on a mother-of-pearl dial.
