Minute Repeater Tri-Axial Tourbillon

Girard-Perregaux has chosen two of the most technically challenging complications for this timepiece that is as much a feast for the eyes as for the ears. First the unusual tourbillon: an inner cage makes its rotation in one minute; around it is a second cage which rotates on a second axis in 30 seconds; both are contained within a third structure rotating on a third axis in two minutes. This construction – measuring 13.78mm in diameter, weighing 1.24 grams and comprising 140 components – triply compensates the effects of gravity on the sprung balance. Second the minute repeater, one of the summits of watchmaking that is given maximum resonance by the impressive 48mm case in titanium. Hours and minutes are displayed off-centre, thereby allowing the widest possible view of the hammers and gongs.
