Reine de Naples 8967

Each year since 2002, the watch that Abraham-Louis Breguet made in 1810 for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples, has returned in suitably regal attire. For 2019, the oblong form of this classic ladies' watch adopts its most contemporary guise yet. Mounted on an indigo blue denim strap, the Reine de Naples 8967 presents a blue lacquered dial, comparable to a unique painting. Layers of lighter coloured lacquer are applied to still wet darker lacquer to obtain a pattern of scrolls, like the swirl of the sea or clouds in the sky. Swept by luminescent hands, two imposing Breguet Arabic numerals are painted in white relief at 6 and 12, completed by an original hour chapter that mirrors the oval contours of the steel case. The movement behind this refined exterior is the automatic Calibre 591C whose gold oscillating weight, visible through the sapphire back, is embellished with elegant guillochage engraving.
