A work of absolute transparency, the Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon “Poinçon de Genève” reveals every one of its movement’s facets inside a 42.5mm case cut from sapphire: a first for a timepiece with the Poinçon de Genève hallmark. Sapphire is notoriously difficult to machine, making this as much a technical as an aesthetic tour de force. For each watch, the specialists at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton begin by extracting a cylinder measuring 50mm in diameter by 150mm in length from a block of sapphire weighing up to 200 kilograms. Thanks to this, the case middle, back and bridge, with the “LV” monogram, are cut from the same block and are therefore rigorously identical in colour. The finished parts, obtained after 400 hours, become a perfect showcase for the manually-wound LV 90 calibre, regulated by a skeleton flying tourbillon inside a cage shaped like Vuitton’s Fleur de Monogram motif.
