Jaeger-LeCoultre chose Watches&Wonders in September 2015 to debut the new Geophysic collection, which pairs serious horological substance with a distinctly classic design. The original Geophysic was made in 1958 for scientists on a mission to the North Pole. Accordingly, Jaeger-LeCoultre designed this chronometer to withstand the powerful magnetic fields in the region and thus continue to keep precise time. Today's Geophysic True Second continues this tradition. It is powered by self-winding Calibre 770 which Jaeger-LeCoultre has equipped with the Gyrolab balance wheel, first developed for the Master Compressor Extreme Lab 1 concept watch. Its non-circular shape reduces air friction which enables heightened precision, as shown by the true seconds hand. This is a rarely-seen feature today in which the seconds hand advances by one jump per second. In a mechanical wristwatch, true seconds are considered a complication in themselves, and one which connoisseurs will recognise.
