Kodo (which is the Japanese word for heartbeat) is Grand Seiko’s first mechanical complication. Inside the 43.80mm platinum and titanium case is an innovative calibre whose verified accuracy of +5/-3 seconds/day remains stable thanks to a constant-force mechanism which, for the first time in horological history, combines with a tourbillon as one unit on a single axis. The surface of the calfskin strap is hand-painted with Urushi lacquer. Kodo was designed by an elite group of Grand Seiko watchmakers and designers who will join a new studio in Ginza, Tokyo, close to where Seiko was founded, that will become the stage for Grand Seiko’s mechanical complications.
