When it comes to climbing a summit of over 4,000 metres or jumping out of an aeroplane once a precise altitude has been reached, you need a precise and reliable measuring instrument.

This is the challenge that Favre-Leuba has set itself with the creation of the Bivouac. The first wristwatch to offer information on altitude and atmospheric pressure.

In 1964, the two mountaineers Walter Bonatti and Michel Vaucher decided to climb the previously untouched north face of Whymper Peak (4,208 m).

On their wrists? Favre-Leuba’s Bivouac, a watch released 2 years earlier.

It took a total of 4 days to complete this world-famous ascent, the story of which Europa Star recounted in an article entitled « 4 days with death in the Mt Blanc massif » in 1965. There is no doubt this watch was a good ally for them.
