THE QUIRKY BACKSTORY OF JEAN-PIERRE HAGMANN SIGNED WATCHES

Before you even wind it, before you hear a chime or admire a complication, some watches already whisper excellence.

A tiny “JP” or sometimes « JHP » engraved on the caseback, or sometimes tucked into the side of a lug, quietly tells a story only the sharpest collectors know.

These two letters belong to Jean-Pierre Hagmann, one of the most revered case makers of the 20th century.

Based in Geneva, he hand-built cases for Patek Philippe, Blancpain, Andersen Genève, and a few other brands.

Every curve, hinge, lug, and bezel was shaped by hand, often from scratch, and always with purpose.

The “JP” hallmark wasn’t decoration.

It was proof.

Proof that the case alone could match the complexity and beauty of the movement it held.
